Jurassic Coastline
As the jewel in the crown of Devon’s Jurassic coastline, Sidmouth is a lovely place to visit in Winter. On crisp cool days, when the sea is as calm as a mill pond, you can gaze out to the horizon from your balcony. Or, in more blustery weather, take a stroll along the Esplanade to blow away the cobwebs. Venturing further will take you along the Millennium Walkway to Jacob’s Ladder Beach. Or for those with strong legs, a hike up steep Peak Hill for amazing coastal views.
Turning left along the Esplanade from the hotel, leads to The Ham and on into the Byes. Two miles of parkland and home to an abundance of trees, The Byes is a lovely peaceful place for a stroll. Sidmouth is very proud of its surrounding nature and is the only Civic Arboretum in the UK. Many of its beautiful trees have been recorded including those in The Byes. For those who prefer to shop rather than walk, Sidmouth’s town centre has many individual and unique shops. From Fields, Sidmouth’s department store, to boutiques, craft and book shops, there’s somewhere for everyone. Perfect for a Winter’s afternoon of browsing.
