Traditional Features
The Regency building, built in 1810, has undergone extensive refurbishment throughout the years. Over the years, the Hook family helped preserve the hotel’s traditional character. Today, we continue to care for this heritage while providing the comfort and amenities our guests expect.
The hotel, with its own blue plaque, was Sidmouth’s first purpose built hotel. The Prince of Wales, later to become Edward VII stayed here in 1856, enabling the ‘Royal’ to be added to its name.
