Traditional hospitality with a personal touch
The Royal York & Faulkner Hotel is a family-owned and run hotel, which has been in the Hook family for three generations.
Friendly and personal service
The family prides itself on the hotel’s friendly and personal service and traditional values. Over the years, these high standards have ensured that the Royal York & Faulkner Hotel is a popular destination in Sidmouth. Many guests return year after year.
Traditional Features
The Regency building, built in 1810, has undergone extensive refurbishment throughout the years. The Hook family has made great efforts to keep the hotel’s traditional features, at the same time ensuring that all guests enjoy excellent modern facilities and amenities throughout. The hotel’s large ground floor features three beautifully designed lounges, which guests are welcome to relax in. High standards of silver service are also provided in the oak panelled restaurant. Each year the hotel closes in January so that a programme of decoration and maintenance can be carried out. This ensures that the hotel’s high standards are kept without disruption to guests.
The hotel, with its own blue plaque, was Sidmouth’s first purpose built hotel. The Prince of Wales, later to become Edward VII stayed here in 1856, enabling the ‘Royal’ to be added to its name.
