Out and about in Sidmouth
Of course, if you want to venture outside the hotel, there’s plenty to do in Sidmouth at this time of year.
Valley of a million bulbs
Why not head up Peak Hill, to see Sidmouth’s host of golden daffodils. Back in 2013, the Valley of a million bulbs was planted in and around Sidmouth following the bequest of £2.3 million from Keith Owen, a Canadian Investment Banker, to the town. Sidmouth even has its own ‘Daffodil Day’. This year, Saturday 7th March begins with gardening talks in the cellar at the town’s Kennaway House. BBC Gardener’s World presenter, Nick Bailey will be discussing flowers at 1pm. Entry costs a penny! A short walk along the Esplanade from the hotel, you can either climb the famous Jacob’s Ladder steps or walk up to Peak Hill from the beach. Or, you can always drive and park close by.
A few steps away is Sidmouth’s glorious Connaught Gardens. With its well-maintained pathways, lawns, bandstand, shrubberies, ornamental trees not to mention fantastic views of the town, beaches and sea, it is well worth a visit during your trip.
Radway Cinema & Manor Pavilion
For evening entertainment, Sidmouth is lucky enough to have its own cinema, The Radway, showing all the latest films aswell as Silver Screen on Thursday afternoons, which shows many recent popular films. Also, there is the Manor Pavilion Theatre, which shows live plays, musicals, dance and comedy shows throughout the year. Following are a few planned for Spring 2020:
Variety by the sea
Broadway and Beyond
Abbagirls the Band
Ballet Theatre UK – Giselle
If you choose to stay in the hotel, you don’t have to stay in your room. With four comfortable, beautifully decorated lounges to choose from, you will be spoilt for choice for somewhere to relax.
