Five reasons to visit Sidmouth this autumn

Summer may be officially over, but autumn is an ideal time to visit Sidmouth. The crowds have departed, the children are back to school, and there’s still plenty to enjoy during a relaxing Sidmouth break.

Why visit Sidmouth this autumn?

Festivals galore

There’s still plenty going on in Sidmouth even after the summer season has ended. Our festival favourites include the Sidmouth & East Devon Walking Festival (September 22nd –28th) – a week of daily free guided walks along the beautiful scenic coastal paths of Sidmouth and East Devon, and Sidmouth Science Festival (27th September to 14th October) – over 100 science-related events including walks, talks, hands-on activities and exhibitions.

Beautiful walks and autumn colours

Positioned on the coast against a backdrop of beautiful countryside there are countless walks in and around Sidmouth. With fewer people about autumn is a lovely time to appreciate the scenery on foot and enjoy the trees in their autumn splendour. We think the Sidmouth town tree trail, a gentle guided route designed to help visitors appreciate the beautiful trees across the town, is at its best at this time of year.

Uncrowded beaches

With the children back in school, the fantastic beaches in and around Sidmouth are less crowded. And from 30th September the summer dog restrictions are lifted so if you bring your dog on holiday you’ll be able to enjoy long walks along the seashore together.

Food heaven

Whether you fancy a scrumptious cream tea, a Sunday pub roast or delicious fresh fish landed that day; you’ll find it all in Sidmouth. If you can’t resist, you’ve got the comfort of knowing that cover all woolly winter jumpers are just around the corner!

Autumnal sunshine

Sidmouth’s location in the south-west generally makes for a mild autumn compared to more northerly British holiday spots. While we can’t guarantee you won’t experience a rain shower or two, we’ve enjoyed quite pleasant autumnal weather in Sidmouth over recent years.
