Enjoy a dog-friendly stay in Devon

The good news if you’re thinking of taking your dog on holiday is that you’ll be able to enjoy a dog-friendly stay in Devon. With Devon’s abundance of beaches, walking trails, open fields and moors, your dog is sure to have the best time on holiday!

Dog-friendly accommodation

Given Devon is doggie heaven, it’ll come as no surprise that you’ll find an abundance of dog-friendly accommodation here, from self-catering holiday lets to hotels. We welcome dogs at the Royal York & Faulkner Hotel for just £8 a night, and this includes a daily meal for your pooch.

Dog-friendly beaches

Dogs are allowed on nearly all of Devon’s beaches although several, including Sidmouth, limit dog access to certain parts of the beach during the summer months. But from 30 September through to 31 March, the dog restrictions are lifted so you and your dog can enjoy long, limitless walks along the shoreline.

Dog-friendly attractions

There’s no need to leave your dog cooped up in your holiday accommodation when there are so many attractions which allow well-behaved dogs. Here’s a selection of dog-friendly attractions within short reach of our hotel in Sidmouth:

Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary – set on a vast farm in the beautiful East Devon countryside the Sidmouth Donkey Sanctuary is home to over 500 donkeys. Visitors are welcome all year round, and with an abundance of scenic farm trails, it’s the perfect place to explore with your dog.

The South West Coast Path – passing through Sidmouth, the South West Coast Path offers many different routes and places to explore with your four-legged friend.

Seaton Tramway – dogs can travel for a flat fee of £1 each way on the Seaton Tramway – a narrow-gauge heritage tram that runs between Seaton, Colyford and Colyton through two nature reserves in East Devon’s glorious Axe Valley.

The Clock Tower Cakery & Restaurant – open daily the Clock Tower is the place to visit following a stroll around Sidmouth’s beautiful and historical Connaught Gardens. The cakes are divine and since dogs are welcome in the restaurant you’ve no excuse not to indulge!
