How our regency past inspires our commitment to exceptional service, year after year

As one of the oldest hotels in Sidmouth, the Royal York and Faulkner has earned a long-standing warm reputation for hospitality and service.

The York hotel was built in 1810 when the concept of a hotel was a relatively new one.  From then onwards the Royal York and Faulkner began setting a precedent for excellent service to create a home-from-home on the Devon coast for its guests.

Visited by the 1st Duke of Wellington, Charles Wellesley in 1854, and Edward Prince of Wales, later to become Edward VII, in 1854, the hotel enjoys a rich history of royal visitors who stayed when they visited Sidmouth.
