As one of the oldest hotels in Sidmouth, the Royal York and Faulkner has earned a long-standing warm reputation for hospitality and service.
The York hotel was built in 1810 when the concept of a hotel was a relatively new one. From then onwards the Royal York and Faulkner began setting a precedent for excellent service to create a home-from-home on the Devon coast for its guests.
Visited by the 1st Duke of Wellington, Charles Wellesley in 1854, and Edward Prince of Wales, later to become Edward VII, in 1854, the hotel enjoys a rich history of royal visitors who stayed when they visited Sidmouth.
In keeping with this regency past, each generation of its resident proprietors have worked tirelessly to maintain the high standards of service required to accommodate such royal guests and it is this level of service that every guest can expect to enjoy during their stay.
Whether you’re visiting Sidmouth for a longer break or just passing through, our dedicated staff will do their utmost to ensure a comfortable experience for the whole time you are with us.
