Sidmouth shopping delights

Most of us like to indulge in a little shopping when we’re on holiday and Sidmouth is the perfect place to enjoy some retail therapy.

Sidmouth has got a vibrant high street with a great range of independent shops, just a few steps away from our hotel. Here are a few of our favourite independent Sidmouth shops, which should give you a good flavour of our town.

Fields of Sidmouth

Dating back to the 1800’s Fields of Sidmouth is one of the few remaining independent department stores. Fields prides itself on “Service as it used to be”. Here you’ll find men and women’s clothing, cosmetics and homewares. With a traditional looking exterior, you’ll find it bright, modern and friendly when you step inside.

Potburys of Sidmouth

Another longstanding feature in Sidmouth, Potburys of Sidmouth has held a prominent position on the Sidmouth High Street for over 150 years. The independently owned furniture store sells everything you need to furnish your home. With free nationwide delivery, you won’t have to worry about how you’re going to get you new sofa home if temptation takes hold!

Goviers of Sidmouth

Goviers of Sidmouth has been selling china and glass in Sidmouth since 1904. Situated on the High Street, Goviers stocks a fantastic collection of fine china, crystal, cutlery and commemoratives. Here’s the perfect place to find a keepsake to take home as a memory of your time in Sidmouth.

Paragon Books

Paragon Books is Sidmouth’s oldest independent bookshop and one of the leading bookshops in East Devon. If you’ve forgotten your holiday read, then this is the place to go. This lovely traditional bookstore sells a broad range of books to appeal to all ages and interests with a next day order service.

The Cheeseboard

If you’re a cheese lover, then you simply must pay a visit to The Cheeseboard, a family-run specialist cheese shop and deli in Sidmouth. The Cheeseboard sell a fantastic range of lovely West Country cheeses alongside national and international cheeses.

Daffy-down-dilly

Sweet lovers behold! Daffy-down-dilly is a sweet emporium where you’ll be taken back to your childhood and remember some of your favourite sweets from the past. Whatever your sweetie taste you’ll find it in Daffy-down-dilly on the High Street.

Humbug

Humbug is a lovely little gift shop situated on Fore Street. They stock an excellent range of traditional and quirky gifts including toys, scarves, bags, signs and stationery. If you’re planning on taking home holiday gifts, then we recommend you pay a visit here.

As well as an amazing range of independent shops Sidmouth also has the familiar high street names including Boots, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Fat Face, M&Co, Mountain Warehouse, Sea Salt and much more.
